Moving to a new country can be exciting but it also can be scary!  It's a great way to make new friends and learn about new cultures...of course coming to Manchester you learn more about football and the beautiful English weather!  What did you think about England when you first arrived?  Can you remember the day you arrived in this country? What were your first impressions?  I lived in China in 2007 to teach for one year and I remember when I first arrived - I could not speak/read/understand a word of Chinese!  I needed my Chinese workmates to help me all the time and that was hard for me.  After a few weeks, I felt 'at home' but those first few days were scary! lol

Do you speak English outside the classroom?  Or is it easier to just talk in your own language?  In the last week, can you think of three situations where you spoke English outside the class? What happened?

Can you remember a situation where you had a problem communicating in English?   I remember when I was in China and I wanted some milk, and when I asked the shop assistant, she pointed to something that looked like it.  So I bought it and took it home and poured it into my cup of tea...it was yoghurt!!! :S

What are the most difficult things about talking to native speakers?  Do you understand the Manchester accent?  What has made it easier to understand?

If you want to both study a language and have an exciting experience, studying abroad will enable you to get the best of both worlds and kill two birds with one stone. Although it can be frightening and daunting when you first arrive in Manchester, every cloud has a silver lining: when you get down to studying, you'll find that it's much better to learn a language straight from the horse's mouth rather than hearing new words on the grapevine. Trying to learn a new language in a foreign country can be like finding a needle in a haystack. It's important to take a break from studying and pop out to the Footage or Tiger Tiger. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

I'm agree with you Ryan.
Only I've been five days and I've already felt many things was listened in Spain. Yesterday I've had a terrible morning in class, I didn't understand anything because we maked a listenings and that are my worse skills, so I came home so hungry with me, there's need to talk in spanish a little and cry. But these situation changed soon someone texted me, and we met in a Piccadilly, and we went to have a beer in Canal Street, he was so lovely and with him, I could know new people and everyone from Manchester. In a conclusion, PLEASE I MUST OPEN MY HEAD

When I arrived at the Manchester airport, everything was unfamiliar and when i got my homestay, they who are owner's friend were talking with some beer and also there was a student. he was from czech. Actually I learnt English in the Philippines before I came here about 3 months ago. I know the between British English and Ameria English is not too much different but the problem was their special accent. The first time, I could not understand even one sentence also they were talking so quickly. Anyway, I am still studying and I think my English skills are improving little by little. The most interesting is that I have seen a vedio on Youtube and it shows to me about 20 different accents. The world is so huse and there are so many things which we have to learn.

Hi everybody,
I'd like to tell you about my first week in this rainy town which is Manchester.
When I arrived to the airport it was awful because I had booked a taxi from my country but the taxi driver was not here and I had to pay for an other one. Furthemore the driver spoke very quickly and with a strong accent. It was difficult to tell him where I had to go.
When I arrived in my homestay it was easier because my new family was very kind. Moreover, there was an other student in the home and the following day he came with me in the city centre in order to show me the main streets, the school and the transports. It helped me a lot.
My first day at school was boring because we had to wait a long time but I met some people who were very fun. However, after that I was in an other class than them and I didn't speak anymore with them.
I want to say to everyone that the people I met in Manchester (bus driver, receptionist, seller, teachers,....) are very very cool. I mean they try to make your trip easier and I aprreciate that. In addition to that I was surprised about the weather. During the first week I didn't see any rain. But don't worry the rain is never far and for one month it's raining maybe five times a week.
In Manchester I can speak with a lot of people: my family, the others students, guys I meet in the pub, ticket's seller....
The most difficult thing I met in manchester is definetely the accent and the speed which people speak. If they speak slowly I can understand but if they speak fastly with an unformal language, it's very difficult. I hope that after four months I could understand everybody.

The first day I arrived in Manchester I was very scared because I couldn’t understand anything the native people were saying me, because I didn’t understand their accent, because it was the first time I heard it. I think England is a very beautiful country and I love it except the weather because I don’t like the rain. My first impression about England was that the people are very friendly because they all give me advice and help me with my problems.

I speak a lot of English outside the classroom but not as much I would like to because I’m surrounded by people that speak Spanish so I don’t practice English as much I would like to. I think I don’t have any problems about talking in English except some words that I don’t know how to translate but I can defence myself talking in English but of course its easier to me to talk in my own language, I had to talk everyday in English because I’m in a country that the native language is English so of course I talk in English to do everything I have to do during the day. Every time I speak in English I don’t have any problems to understand and talk, the only time3 I had I problem with the communication was my first I couldn’t understand anything that the taxi drives was telling me, but after getting used to the British accent if quick easy to understand except when they talk fast.

The most difficult part is when they talk too fast and I don’t understand so I have to ask him or her if him/she could repeat it for me. I think Manchester accents are more understandable than others t like the Liverpool accent that it too strong, when you get used to the accent its easier to understand than the beginning because you talk with more people with that accent and its more easier to understand.

My journey to England cames with a lot emotion to me. I wait a all year to come and I tried to be prepared. So I did research about the city and the British habits. I am so happy, because now I get many new friends here. Through these friends I can discover more about other countries and to be in Europe is a good way to visit many countries.
My first impression was positive, but I don`t like to see the trash in the street. My first time in England was 10 years ago, in London and I liked so much. I have a group where I can pratice my English and we meet 2 a month, but I try to be connect with them through facebook. Outside the classroom is the real life, I go to the supermarket, to the gym and to the Kaplan, so I spoke English? I live with my husband and we talk Portuguese every night. Very often I said something to somebody and the person don`t understand, but I thik it`s because of the accent. I think that each person around the world have a concept about what is correct or wrong, but sometimes this is difficult to understand. For example, in my country is unpolite spit in the floor and here happens all the time.
I respect all countries and traditions. I want learn and get for my life what I believe to be the best.

When I decided to come to Manchester I never thought about the weather or the location, I only thought that it is in the middle of England and has a good football team. The day that I arrived to, I was very nervous because everybody in my country said that British people were very serious and impolite, but they were totally different, the first person who I spoke to was the immigration woman and she was very friendly and showed me a beautiful smile and I felt more confident.

When I started my class was so heartwarming because my English was the worst but my teacher and my classmates have helped me, the accent is difficult, very strong; I try to practice every time, in the gym, with my host family, in the street; every time is important, and of course with my new friends.

However coming to a different country has advantages and disadvantages, for one side I have made many friends from different countries, have improved my English and everyday I am doing something different, but for other side, sometimes is difficult for me understand the cultures, if I’m not careful with my opinions, I can offend people. I think that is the most difficult situation for me because I could sound critical and be unpleasant.

But I don’t have any doubt, coming here was the best idea.

Hi everbody,

now I tell you about my firs few days in Manchester.

I arrived on 22nd of Septermber. I didn't speak english and I was really scared, because this was my first long time without family and my boyfriend. After I arrived to Manchester airport I took a taxi and I went to my homestay. So, I wasn't happy there because my room was horrible. I had just bed, small cabinet and slim commode. I didn't have any places for everything else. I cried, because my family missed me do much.

After unpack my luggage I fell asleep and I slept for 16 hours. One day after everything was a little bit better. I talk with host family more and I ate something.

On the Monday I went to school at first and I had some exam, interview and so on. After writing exam I met one boy from my country and I was so happy. He helped me with a lot of things even my homesick was really better.
Now I am talking with him just few time of month, because my english skills are better and I know more people from other countries.

I remember my first day .It was horrible. It was raining cats and dogs. I was scared because my taxi driver couldn't find my house . I arrived at 11:30 pm, all the shops were closed and my taxi driver was angry. Whatever my host family recived me in a very special kind then everything changed.

I have spoken english with everybody even when I am going to order my meal. I remember one situation with a sales woman because I wanted a kind of sandwich but I didn't know how to order in english, although they were selling that product then I had to ask a friend if he could order for me and finally I got my meal.

For me the most difficult thing is when they speak fastly and I can't understand the meaning but the accent is not very difficult. I really like manchester except weather

Now I feel really good, everything is cool and I can keep a conversation with everybody . That makes me happy . I hope to reach an a advanced level.

When my parents told me that I was going to Manchester I got excited and couldn’t wait to be there. I spent all my days planning what to do when I get there. The day came, I flew 13 hours and finally I arrived at Manchester’s airport. I was frightened but at the same time happy to be in other continent, which in fact is very different from mine. I took a taxi and I arrived at my host family’s house. The lady was very kind and she explained to me what bus I should catch in order to go to school. That night I slept like 14 hours, went out and realized that it was raining. I love rain but the days passed and I started to hate the weather.
The next day was my first day at Kaplan; I struggled a lot to find the right building. We had a lot of exams and interviews; it was quite a hard day. At the end of the day I realized that there were a lot of Latin people and started to talk with them. We went to a pub and I met 2 girls from France, who in fact are my best friends here.
I have been in Manchester 3 weeks and I feel at home, I like my host family and I have made a lot a friends. Honestly, I don’t miss my country at all; I wish I could stay longer. However, I will be here for 5 months more and I plan to enjoy everything I can.
I think my English has improved since I arrived here and I hope that in a few weeks I could communicate better with the native speakers.

Talk , is a big problem for me , because most of time i'm a quiet person , even in my own language . Speaking English is a big challenge for me , but I know I have to do , that i can improve my English.
I still remember the first impression when I arrived Manchester , I was so scared and nervous , i only can use my poor English to talk to other people who only can speak English. But , I was really lucky I think , most British we have met are very friendly . An old lady we met on the second day , she saw us were looking on a map , and she asked us what are we were looking for , and then she walked with us for a long time and guide us to the location where we are looking for.
I have already stayed in Manchester for 3 months , I think my English is better than 3 month ago , but i still have problem with talking to other people in English on phone.when I meet people face to face , maybe I can understand what they are talking about by their action or body language , and the voice is clearer than on the phone. Most of time I can't understand what are they talking about on the phone for just one time , I have to ask them for second time or third time , then I can understand. It's really a big problem for me now , I think the only way can save this problem is never stop to improving my English , even I finish the course in Kaplan , I still need to practice everyday.

My experience in Manchester.
I came to Manchester one week ago to improve my English, because it is very important for me in my job. I am working in a financial department and I need knowledge of English because my company has a customer of others countries and I need to communicate with them.
When I arrived here to Manchester I didn't know anybody and I was very excited about my new experience. When I arrived at the airport I took a taxi, but I didn’t remember that the taxi driver was on the other hand (right) different than Spain and this moment I opened the door of the driver to sit me there, this situation was a little uncomfortable and funny.
My first impression of Manchester was it is a big city, and that I would need an umbrella all the time. Normally I speak in English outside of the school with other people of the school or when I need to buy something, also with my mother of Manchester, because now I am living in a homestay and all day I can practice with her my English, I think that to live in a family is better than to live in the residence, because you have to speak in English with them.
The most difficult for me, is to understand different accents of different countries, for me is more easy understand the native people, but only when they speak with me slowly. With my mother I have a little problems, because she speaks with me with close accent and very quickly. The last day, when I finished my breakfast, she asked me that I wanted bread with eggs, but I didn’t understand her and I answer her that ok. When I saw the situation, I had to eat again, because she had been cooking for me.

Definitely it’s a complicated situation; you’re far from your family and friends in a country that everything is different, although I think that the most interest thing about studying abroad! When you put yourself in a situation like that, you learn more than just the language!
I remember my first day here in Manchester; was a gorgeous sunny day (a miracle, right?), and despite that I was very tired because of the trip, I was absolutely amazed with the city! It’s beautiful here!
In the beginning was really hard to talk with the natives, like when I went to have lunch, for example, ordering food was hard because the attendants started to ask some details about the food and I couldn’t understand them. Now I feel more positive to talk with the natives. Last weekend I met some guys from New Castle and was really nice to realize that despite the strong accent, I’m able to speak with English people, and most importantly, they can understand me!
I’m leaving next week and I already think that coming here was great experience!

I always dreamed about coming to England. So for me is my dream became true. The first day in Manchester was very nice, but I was tired because the flight was more than 12 hours from Brazil to Manchester. On the first day I just took a shower and rested. But the second day was great, was holiday here so I went to a lot o places, recognize the city and get lost. My first impression of Manchester was very nice, it was a sunny day and I thought Manchester is a beautiful city.
I speak in English with my mates from Kaplan and when I go to a shop and buy food, for example. Couple of weeks ago I met 2 guys from New Castle and was great spoke English with them, wasn’t difficult (but they spoke slowly to helped me). I usually speak in my on language because my sister is here too and is very hard to not speak Portuguese.
One time me and my sister went in a pub called The Old Monkey and we didn’t understand anything the girl was talking about it. We just order a beer and she started to talk a lot of thing and we just answered “Yes”, she gave us the beer and probably thinks we were stupid.
The most difficult thing about talking with the natives is when they speak very fast; sometimes the accent can be a problem. If they spoke not so fast, we could understand better. Usually I don’t have problem to speak with them.

Hi everybody,
I want to share my experience about my stay in Manchester. My first thoughts about Manchester weren’t really good at all. The reason why is quite simple because there were so much mess on the streets. But after a few minutes I realized it was because of the football match between Manchester City and Arsenal. Nowadays the streets are really clean. People usually say that the weather in the UK is really bad but I can’t agree. I really like the weather in Manchester.
I don’t speak in my own language outside the classroom too much. The reason why I don’t speak in my own language is that I have met so many new people from other countries and I usually spend my free time with them. But for sure it is easier for me too speak in Czech but I do my best to communicate in English as much as I can. Three situations where I spoke English outside the class are quite similar. The first one was in a pub where I was with my friends from Kaplan the second one was at the residence while drinking some beers with my friends from Kaplan and the third one was when I bought tickets for a football match in Bury.
I haven’t experienced a situation where I had a problem communicating in English yet, but I am sure that it will come pretty soon. The biggest problem while communicating with native speakers is their accent but it gets better every day.

I know the difference between British English and American English is not too much different but the problem was their special accent. When I came at Kaplan at the first day, in my class there were about 10 people. They were from all different countries and had different accents. Unfortunately, there was problem as well because of the pronunciation but I thought It was kind of practise. So now I can understand their pronunciation but not perfectly. Studying English in English country is the best way to improve for everyone so that is why I am here and can learn easily than in Korea. I recommend to everyone who wants to learn English should go to an English speaking country and try to study hard and enjoy life. There is not only one way to learn English it also can depend on your situation. Even if you cannot go to an English country, might be there are so many way to learn it. There is a popular sentence. “Don’t be .afraid of your mistakes and learn from them.” So I’d like to say that everything is up to you so do not give up on your way.

When I arrived here i was very scared. Everything around me was new, and I didn't know anybody who I can talk with. Remembering that day, nowadays i think that I was very stupid because the possibility to know new people and talk to them was in front of me.
The following days were better, I knew some people in my class and i began to speak with them.
In regards to Manchester itself, I was a little bit lost, with that cold weather that it made me sad.
I haven't encountered many difficulties on my walk in Manchester, when somebody didn't understand me, he or she asked to me to say for a second time the sentence that I told. It helped me to better myself.
Now I feel good, everything is blessed and I can keep a conversation with everybody, more or less.
I'm enjoying myself here, this is enough.

When I decided to go in an English country I wasn't sure about going to England or America. Then I thought about the cost and the habits and I decided England was the best option. The godmother of my brother is english so I had already heard english accent and it doesn't bother me but when I arrived in Manchester, I was a little bit lost because it was the first time I was in England and the accent was different. I took a taxi to go to my host family house and the taxi driver didn't find the house at once then he asked me again what the adresse was and I arrived safe and sound.
When I arrived there, we had dinner and I went to bed happy to be there but a little bit stress about what it was going to happen in three months.

I try to speak English as often as I can but it is quiet difficult because there are a lot of French and Spanish speakers so I have to be patient when I speak English to find good words and good ways to express myself. I have to speak in English with my host family and I'm very glad to do it because they teach me a lot. We watch a lot of movies and if can't understand they explain me right in the moment what I couldn't understant.
Yesterday I had an other situation to speak with English speakers because I had to do my monthly ticket for the tram again. It was quiet easy because I knew what I wanted not like the first time I did it. The first time I did it it was a little bit more difficult but at the end I had my monthly ticket even if it took me 20 minutes to do it.

I'm very glad to be here because I met a lot of people from different countries who have different accents so you can listen to different English accent.

When I arrived in Manchester, I fell only. I am in the residence, it's the first time that I live alone and the weather wasn't good. My firts impression was that it will be long to be here. The first days I was ashamed to speak english and it was difficult to understand the other people because they speak very fast and with a strange accent.
Now it's better I meet a lot of friends and I know the city. I think it's a good city, the people are very kind and polite and the rain isn't a problem anymore. I speak english everztime outside the school and I practise the language with additional books. I really want to progress.

Hi everybody !!!!!

I would like to tell you my short experience in Manchester.
When I arrived to the airport, I was happy. Because I love this town since I was young.
My passion is football and Manchester United is a legend in this discipline. Now, Manchester City F.C is also famous but not a legend like United. It's a fashion club ;-).
I took many pictures on the road of my residence. I'm in a liberty living, I think it's better for my independance. But, if I'd been in a homestay, I would have spoken more English with family.
I will explain to you another day my experience !!!!!

See you soon.

Hi Dude,

I think it's a great choice to study English in Britain. It is the right opportunity to learn the language at school, the street, the restaurant and the market. Here you will be in need of finding a means of communication with others is certainly English languege. i think we will overcome the understanding accent in Manchester after a period of time.As an arabic student here, the city with a large of Arabic-speaking people, this limits the opportunities for learning, but we can make friendship with friends of various countries in order to learn together English.

I arrived Manchester by plan on 7th of October. The weather was fine, the sun was shinning and there was any cloud on the sky. I used the public traffic system to meet my hostfamily. Now, I got the first shock, because the public traffic system im Manchster is very difficult. There are 5 different bus company and you must pay for all bus company another ticket. After a 1 hour trip I arrived my hostfamily and the first welcome was great. The hostmother showed my the room and we talked about the journey, weather and about english people. On the evening the hostmother cooked pasta and it was very fine, although all people in Germany said that english meals taste very bed.
On my first weekend in Manchester I will discover the city, also I will plan a trip to Liverpool by train and I hope I will have a great time here in GB.I won't never rent a car, because the traffic on the right side is terrible for me and I hope I will never have an accident.

I remember the first day well. I reached Manchester Airport on the evening. It was not rain but I was so nervous and tired because this was the first time to live in foreign country. I remember I could be very unlikely to start a conversation with someone. In the first day in Kaplan since all of the teacher and staff were so kind for me, I started talking to someone in a positive manner. I am writing this reply on my fifth day in Manchester, so I have not joined social program yet. But I would like to join a lot of social program during the day in Kaplan. I strongly believe that it enables me to make a lot of friend and to improve my English skills. Being aggressive is the most important thing to have fun the life in Manchester.

I remember very well when I arrived to Manchester. I was too nervious and happy both. In Spain everybody asked me about why I had chosen this city, simply, I like football, boxing, nightlife and the most important... I want to find a job here because I would like to live in UK maybe two year and in Manchester is easier find a job than others cities in England, don't forget it: In Manchester started "The Industrial Revolution" hahaha.
So, I arrived to Piccadilly Gardens about 6 pm and my first impressions were so nice. This city is very different than Madrid, a lot of trams, much more unhealthy restaurants than Spain... and of course it was raining that day! My english was too poor in my first time here, I didn't understand anybody by my bad english and the hard accent here, but now is better and I am living a normally life.
I was impressed with mancunian people because I thouth that they would be very strict but on the contrary they're friendly, funny and smartly!
Sometimes, I had had some problems in the supermarket, "Aldi", it's really cheap, but a day this market was very busy, a lot of people inside and the cashierwoman wanted to go very fast and I didn't understand her perfect english hahaha but in general I hadn't huge problems in Manchester!
I try speak english all the time but is difficult because I have some friends from Spain here, and they speak in spanish sometimes but I hate this haha, that's why I am going to a boxing gym in the afternoon, other form for improve my english.
That's all!

Hi
When I arrived to Manchester I was very afraid because I thought I could not understand the customs official and how to explain that I came to study English here. It wasn't difficult but I was nervous about to speak in other language. Then I was worried because I had to take the bus to my friend's house, she had explained to me how getting home, but I thought I could lose or take the wrong bus.
Day by day I think my english is improving but I need work hard because sometime is difficult understand when the people speak very fast o have a very strong accent.

I took a long journey to come to Englandr, when I arrived Manchester, even I was tired but I still very excited. In here everything is so new for me,the double buses, the building looks. But In the beginning I was very scared to speaking English, because I'm afreaid speaking wrong or I can't understand what people say it about.Luckily I meet people in here are friendly and nice.that's very different than I thought before.Lots of people say that british people are serious and unfriendly, but this is untrue. So right now I'm happey I come to here and I not afraid to speak English no more.

Hi everybody,
The first time I came to the UK was in 2008. I felt nervous and panicky because I couldn’t speak very well and no body had come to collected me from the Heathrow airport where I arrived . Another problem was how I could move to Bournemouth where I was studying English and I didn’t know how far is Bournemouth? How I could get to it? What kind of transportation could I take?
All of these questions increased my anxiety.
Then I decided to ask a man who helped me and arranged with a young man who works as a taxi driver to deliver me to my host family.
During the way to Bournemouth, I explorered that the taxi driver was from Arabic country. This language is mother tongue that thing made me feel more relax.

What did you think about England when you first arrived?

Hello everyone. Even thought I've been to England before, when I arrived my first impression was that It was a very clean country with blue days and cold weather. I was afraid because I wasn't with my parents, I took a taxi and I didn't know where I was going to but when I met my hostmother I felt confortable and then I knew that this experience could be great.

Hi every body

last week I met a few poeple who won't able to spoke french. Then I had to speak in english with them .
I believe that's better for me to improve faster my English level.
So I tried to see them more as possible and I had given them some apointment to have a drink together, or to go at party together.
Eventhough I did'nt meet them , I usually speak with my homestay during tea time, so by this way I can improve my english level too.

I think the most problem to speak with native speakers is to understand what they reply to your question that is my case I am always a little confused. The accent is very strong and they speak very fast so I have difficulty to go on with the conversation so often I have to try asking someone else!! But arrived just 2 days ago so I hope to improve speaking and listening as much as possible in the next two months.

I had to pay a taxi to go back to my homestay. on the second day was different because I tried to know more about the transport red and could go back to my homestay by bus.

The travel was so long, sexteen hours is for be really tired, when I took mi taxi I was trying speak with the taxi man, sometimes understand his words but i was so distracted looking the way and the city.
My first impression to Manchester was very scared, because the airport was very alone, when I used the phone for call to my home stay here I did not know what say and I did not have enough coins but was one good experience.

This city is very good, I love be in the streets, walk and met new things and new culturies.

my first impression about Manchester when i came here was good.
Because every building is old and has history.
this is my first time to come to Europe,so i was impressed by all of UK.
But, when i came here, it was rainy and next day, next day ,next day,it continued for ling time.
Althoght it is sometimes sunny, almost day is rainy.
before i come here i have had bad feeling for example unfriendly about British people without reason.
but in fact, almost people is kindness and friendly including host mother ,Kaplan people.
so first impression was good

i have been for four weeks and when i first arrived i thought that it would be a good experience.
In manchester the people are very nice and i have made a lot of friends from differents countries.
The food isn't very good because it normally contains butter and in Spain y always use oil.
On the other hand i try not to spend a lot of money because i want to get a job and now i need to save.
The weather always is very bad because it's raining everyday and for example i can't run in the street but now i am in the habit.
I have seen a lot of things in Manchester and i love it. I was in the stadium of Mnanchester City.

I've been here for more than 5 weeks when I first arrived I thought the English language would be my biggest challenge, because my English speaking and listening is very basic, but now I think this is wrong, because English people are very friendly, they will help you if you can't say anything.

Manchester has many old buildings,it's not like China,China has many new buildings, a lot of old buildings have been dismantled,it's very unfortunate.I like old buildings of the UK,because these buildings have been giving us more and more culture and history, we should protect these buildings.

When I first arrived in Manchester, I thought that it would be cold, but not this kind of. In spite of this, I am accustumed now.

Now, talking about the food, it is plastic. There is lots of places of fast food, and also, the home cooked food is unusual here.

FIRST DAY IN ENGLAND

I arrived in England on 23rd September, for my first experience in a country that people speak English.

After 12 hours flying, I went to my first lesson when I asked in McDonalds a “Number 1, Please” and the guy for 30 seconds asked me things that I couldn’t understand. I thought, OK, Now I know how is difficult it is to take a number 1 in England!!!

SECOND WEEKEND

My second weekend, I went Liverpool with Jordan and Inaki, where we saw The Beatles Museum, The Liverpool Well and we had a nice lunch in Blue Restaurant on the pier.

THIRD WEEKEND

The 3rd Weekend, I went to York, a small and very nice English city, where I took beautiful photos to present in my photography course in London.

In the same day, I know a lot of students for differents countries, for example, France, Venezuela , Mexico and Corea.
Now, I live in Eccles, this is small town near to Manchester, but I need to always take a tram to come to Kaplan. I stay 20 minutes on a tram, but in my opinion, trams are the best transport in Manchester.
My experience in the class is really good, because the class is dinamic and challenging.
I travelled to Chester on my first weekend, I went with my spanish friends, I passed really good day. I saw the wall, the town center and I ate in italian restaurant, in my opinion the best food in England, sorry.
The next weekend, I visited Liverpool, this is a big city in England. I went to the Beatles Museum and I saw the most importants things in the city, as for example, Liverpool Cathedral, Albert area and differents things. But not all travell, I think is important that the student take the chance to improve english level.

DAY. 1

Hello. Welcome to my blog.
Yesterday I arrived in England. I felt a little nervous.
I unpacked in my homestay. After that, I have been to pub.
I met British people. We talked about each other’s culture.
They were so kind and humorous. So we had a good time. I felt excited.

DAY. 2

Hi. This is my second time.
Today, I have been to Kaplan International Colleges, it was my first class.
I expected it to be boring. But, that time was not as bad as what I expected, because my classmates were cheerful and my teacher was kind. So I’m looking forward to tomorrow class.

DAY. 3

Today, I have been to Burnley. I watched a football game with my homestay family.
There are beautiful things on the road to Burnley. I took some pictures. I saw cows, sheep and horses.
Somebody from my homestay was playing in the game. He is a good football player. The game was really exciting. Our team won. But, I have had one problem. It was the weather! The weather was very cold. I had two hours shivering. So I have a cold now.

On the second weekend, I went to Manchester Museum; it has a good exhibition about dinosaurs, old coins, meteorites and animal anatomy. It was very good. Later I went to the art gallery.

On the fourth weekend, I visited York and I saw the cathedral, it’s amazing and I took many pictures. For lunch, I ate Italian food, it was very good.

Hi everybody ..
I have been in Manchester since last Sep. on the first day I got lost trying to find my home as most student and I asked may be 5 to 8 people in the street to show me the right way to my home. after two hours I found my home and I put my luggage and went out again to know what I could find around my home. I like Manchester city from the first time because it includes friendly people and they are always help new tourists. I had enthusiasm on that day because I want to hold my language and start to speak only in English so, I spoke with many people to show me my way to my house. After that I went to the supermarket to buy a sim card and some fruit but I was happy with that because I did not find any problems to communicate with native speakers.

In the last week I spoke with the apple store about how I can book new devices online and how I can recive them. Next I spoke with the employer in the travel shop to buy a bus ticket for six months. finally I tried to speak with my friend by chatting on the facebook. I had a problem when I spoke with the hospital to do my health insurance then I solved this problem. The most difficult thing about talking to native speakers that they talk too fast and their pronunciation is too difficult to understand by another language speaker. So, I hope to improve my English in these 8 months to understand all native speakers.

When I arrived in Manchester I was so exited about this new experience and how good it was going to be, but when I got down of the plane and I started to hear all this strange accents I felt a little bit intimidated, because it was so different than the english that I was practicing in Venezuela. I took my taxi and went to my home stay's flat, it was so awesome and my host was so cool that all my fears went away, from that moment, being in Manchester has been an amazing experience, Kaplan is terrific I've made so many friends since I'm here and studying in Kaplan is not borring at all, I'm having such a good time, besides I am learning alot and improving my english everyday speaking in real conversations whith native people and even if their not I have to speak english whith non natives because they dont speak spanish. If there is a thing that I don't like about Manchester is the weather!!! but that's all.

i was excited about travelling to manchester, but when I arrived I felt a bit nervous, because I just spoke a little English. the first problem I had, was at the airport. I lost one of my luggages so I did not know what to do or with who i should speak to.

After that I got out of the airport and I spoke with a taxi driver to get me to my address and I had difficulty to understand him because he was an indian man I think and he did not speak clearly.

In the second day I went out to see the town and do some shopping but when I wanted to go back to my flat, I got lost . I even asked the bus driver how to get to my address but he did not know. So I got off the bus and I walked about 30 minutes and I found an old women on the street I asked her and she was very friendly and she helped me to get home.
I have been here for 2 months and I feel better now. The life is totally different here nevertheless I have adapted to it now.

In my opinion Kaplan has been like a home for me because everyone in Kaplan is a big family and all of us have the same goal which is to learn English, sometimes this goal seems difficult to achieve but we have good teachers who teach us. I think Kaplan Manchester is the best place where you can learn English, firstly it has many tools that you can use to improve everyone of your skills, you can rent a movie, books or even surf by internet in the study centre, also you can visit interesting places in the U.K. through the social programmes which they have.

I try to spend weekends knowing different places in U.K. like Liverpool, York, London and Chester but sometimes it is difficult to make a long travel at weekend, for this reason most of my free time I practise English talking with my friends and my host home also I study Grammar in the Kaplan and British Council website every day. But I know I need have a balance between Study and fun.

I like Manchester it’s an amazing city that has variety of things to do, there are variety of museums, art gallery, football stadiums, amazing pubs, restaurants, everything. The city is very organized and the public transport is impressive. The people are polite and very friendly and most of the case they help you in all you need.

After the school I need to go back to my country and find a better job but I hope to come back in September to study a Post grade in the University of Manchester.

Hi everyone, I hope you all are ok. I'm going to tell you all my history living in england. When I arrive in London on 22 September, I saw it's a beautiful and big city. I was impressed because everything here is almost completely different than my country. I like so much the public transport here. In my city, we don't have the facility of tram and train, we just have buses for transport for everybody.

Secondly, my first impression was the direction of the road on the contrary than my country. Furthermore, another impression was that I saw the handwheel on the right, it was strange for me because in almost all countries the handwheel is on the left, when I saw that, it was funny. Thus, it was too difficult to adapt myself here.

I think that I'm spending my father's money good because I'm learning english faster and very well. Above all, I think the best option to learn english better and quicker is to come to a country where speak the lenguage what you want to learn. I think I'm living with the best host-family because they care about myself and they speaking a lot with me every day. So, the things are going well. I've spoken with my everyone in english every day, like my host-mom, also her son who has the same age than me.

Moreover, I remember that my first problem communicating in english was in listening with my host-family, it was because they are from London, so they have a different accent. Further to this, my host-brother speak too quickly. Thus on that date, I had to tell him to speak to me more slow.

I arrived here in Manchester the 22 of September of 2012. The first day I was a little scared and amazed, I was stepping into a new world for me, it was amazing.
Only landing in Manchester airport I was feeling that I was outside of my home, away of my family, my friends.. It was a little baffled.
I could feel in the airport that I wasn't in Spain, in that moment was the time to be strong, be outside of my country to learn one language and live in one world totally different, learn to live without my language and be every day surrounded by english people..Anywhere, learn to be alone and walk for a new world for myself.
That feeling was the spark that began this amazing trip only standing up on my seat. Now I have returned from my christmas holidays here again after having been three months formerly, and I have returned to be other person, having been three months living for yourself and learning everyday of this country help to grow as person.
Now I will be here until 15 of march, I only hope that this experience be the beggining of one my adventures outside of my home.

Hi I am Onur. From Turkey. I arrived Manchester 1 July. I thought it would be a nice city and it's true. I felt relaxed because my cousin picked me up from the airport. In my earlier days I felt depressed. I didn't know any way or road and Piccadilly Gardens also, but my cousin helped me for that and thanks him.

Secondly, phone problem... I think operators are so expensive I use O2 and the top up is a problem. If there is a Wi-Fi in your homestay or Residence it is very big advantage in my first homestay there is not and it was terrible for me and I changed it.

Let's talk about Manchester. It is very beautiful city and I think it is the best for students in UK. I went London it was very beautiful city but it is hard to live I think especially for students. It is so expensive. Manchester is not much expensive as London. And the Kaplan School is very close to Piccadilly Gardens (city centre).

I really really liked Manchester and I will miss it in the future. And I hope you liked this. If you are Turkish too read the words what am I gonna write now don't worry is is gonna be Turkish:DDD
