When you speak about the passion of music, you must speak about “El sistema” (the system) in Venezuela.
“El sistema” is a big project founded by Jose Antonio Abreu in 1975, for the purpose of changing the lives of the neediest children in the poorest areas. This social project has crossed frontiers. Venezuela is a good example of social development through music. More than 250.000 children and young people are currently learning to play instruments, I was part of this, and I can say that music changes your life in all areas, you develop your discipline, your passion and desire to live inside the music and its related lifestyle. In Venezuela there are around 90 schools of music, each one has minimum 3 orchestras, you can calculate how many people are involved in this great project that is changing the life, the mentality, the culture of a lot of people. Gustavo Dudamel is a great example of this project, he started in music when he was only 4 years old, and right now is a globally famous conductor; he has won a lot of important awards and he has received good acclaim in all scenes. The most important conductors around the World have been in Venezuela and have said that the art of the classical music is being transformed in a good way due to the great work of Jose Antonio Abreu and him co-workers, this is a source of pride for us.
