Euro 2012 - The Final
Not so Super-Mario
It is the final of "EURO 2012", where 2 teams remain; Spain (the previous champion) against Italy, who won the championship only once, in 1968. All teams were knocked-out from the tournament except these two squads.
First, Spain (the Matador) won on penalties 4-2 in the semi-final. Italy (the Azzuri), on the other hand, made a real-life miracle, when they defeated Germany (Die Mannschaft) 2-1. It is difficult, though, to reach the semi-final, and suddenly you find yourself out of the championship!
It started with a desire to take the trophy, thus, both teams tried to steal a goal from the beginning. The Matador had maintained their quality, thanks to their brilliant squad. The Azzurri, also, had played very well during the tournament, until they reached the final. No one has imagined even for a second that both could go further in this tournament, but yesterday was the final between them. Both were in the same group, where they drew 1-1 in the group-stage. All teams had been knocked-out by these two squads. Furthermore, the match was finished with an unexpected result, especially when you know that they had been in the same group, before they started to play the harsh final rounds. The final was completely different! Even the worst pessimistic Italian fan would never think about it like what happened on Sunday the first of July. The history turned back against the Azzurri. If you look at the capabilities for both squads, you will, definitely, favour the Matador over the Azzuri without any doubt. Also, it has been seen that the Azzuri can summon up an astonishing performance, when they have a crisis, yet their performance, this time, wasn't adequate to be the champion. Balotelli, Super Mario, the man of the previous match, was hidden, as was Cassano as was Di Natale. The Azzurri were frustrated and the disconcertion was apparent, therefore, the Matador, as always, took the lead. First, David Silva scored at the 14m, Jordi Alba 41m, Fernando Torres 84m, and ultimately Jaun Mata 88m.
To conclude, the final was impressive for the Spanish players, who grabbed the trophy, on the other hand, the Azzurri players disappointed their fans, with their weak performance at the end. Overall, we could learn from this match the importance of how to not struggle in a sensitive stage, and we just need to keep in our hearts the desire, and believe in it by any way.
