Are we doing enough to protect the environment?
The Environment is the most important issue today for every country and government
Many years ago when I was reading a book about old Native Americans, I wrote down an idiom that concerned the environment. It was like this “We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children”
I think this idiom is very important to talk about environment. People are developing, countries are developing and continents are developing, but at the same time we have forgotten the main reason to live in the world. Actually we are responsible for protecting our world for our children. If we don’t do this, it will be dangerous for our future.
In my opinion 20 years from now, our world will not be recognisable. Climates will have changed, food sources will cause wars between countries. Even though everyone is trying to protect enviroment, this change will not be stopped. Scientists in the future will say that if people had done more to change attitudes and behaviour towards the environment, our environment would be in better condition.
In fact, I am hopeful. As I see, new generation, lots of volunteer and social groups have been protesting from time to time. If these activities are continued, the world will probably be better than now. Definitely I support these activities.
However, some issues make me feel disappointed. For instance every country has signed the Kyoto agreement, but the US hasn't signed yet. As I know the US’s carbon footprint rate is very high and they refuse to sign the agreement. This is not fair.
Overall, like the American Native people say that we have to leave a clean world to our future.

Grammar corner
Did you notice this sentence in the middle of the article?
"20 years from now, climates will have changed". This is an example of the future perfect tense. This tense is not very common in English, we only use it to describe something that will be finished before another time in the future. For example:
Claudia and Jean Pierre are both leaving Manchester on Saturday. Claudia is flying to Bogota, via Madrid, so she has a very long flight. She will not get home until Sunday morning. Fahad has a shorter, direct flight to Paris. He will arrive home on Saturday evening.
When Claudia lands in Bogota, Jean Pierre will have already arrived in Paris.
We use WILL + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE.
