Wonderful Novel ‘’ The Kite Runner’’
I want to discuss a novel, which was written by Khaled Husseini, The Kite Runner, wonderful portrait of one Afghan boy’s life. The book has already accepted as “the classic novel” by a lot of authority. I agree with this and recommend this gorgeous novel to all of you who haven’t read it yet.
The book is about one Afghan boy’s life. Our protagonist is Amir. Amir’s childhood was well to do. His father was a rich and reputable person in Kabul, and respected by local people. They had a servant Ali and his son Hassan. Amir’s father loved Amir and Hassan in same manner. But Amir thought that his father loves Hassan more. That’s why he was jealous of Hassan. Hassan was loyal for him. Ali and Hassan was an Hazara, the minority ethnic in Afghanistan. That’s why one boy called Assef blames Amir because of he socializing with a Hazara. According to Assef an inferior race that should only live in Hazarajat.
Amir wanted to compete in local Kite festival to earn his father’s respect. Hassan was a successful kite runner for Amir, knowing where the kite will land without even watching it. In competition day Amir won the tournament and Hassan ran to catch kite, but he ran into Assef and his two henchmen. Hassan refused to give up Amir’s kite, so Assef assaulted him and raped him. Amir also witnessed that tragic scene but he couldn’t help because he scared. Afterward, for some time Amir and Hassan kept a distance from each other. Amir react different, because he felt ashamed, was frustrated by Hassan’s saint like behavior. Already jealous of father’s love for Hassan, he worried if father knew how bravely Hassan defended Amir’s kite, and how cowardly Amir acted. That father’s love for Hassan would have grown even more. Amir accused Hassan and Ali of stealing, and they left the house.
During those days the Soviet Army invaded to Afghanistan. Tough days started for Amir and his father. They escaped to Pakistan and then refuge to California, USA. Amir went to local community collage to develop his writing skills. His father had worked gas station after; they opened a stall in flea market. Amir fell in love with a girl who worked there. They married, his father died in cause of cancer. Amir and his wife learned they couldn’t have child. Amir become a successful novelist.
Years after, he received call from one of his father’s friend who was in very ill, Rahim Khan, and he asked Amir to come to Pakistan. Amir visited Rahim Khan and he learned the secret about his father and Hassan. He realized that Hassan was his kinship brother and Hassan killed by Taliban. Finally, Rahim Khan told him the true reason why he called him to Pakistan was to go to Kabul to rescue Hassan’s son, Shohrab, from an orphanage.
And Amir’s dangerous and curious adventure to rescue his nephew started…
The novelist portrayed the Afghan life in a very clever, exciting and inimitable way. You will read from Amir’s view about past Afghanistan, despair, relation, life, racism, discrimination as well as culture differences. You won’t be regretting to read this book. The fantastic portraying Amir’s life by Khaled Hussin will give you saw yourself in that life.
