Junk Food, Healthy life
Bacon and chocolate: myths and facts
The perfect combination?
Despite people’s opinion, which seems to be the majority, based on our recent survey, about junk food being completely unhealthy, some new polls are proving that it is not that bad. In fact, if you match this kind of food with an active life you might soak up all the benefits provided by it.
Our first myth is about bacon and, what’s not a surprise, 85 per cent of our interviewed do think that bacon can’t be useful to their quality of life. But we’ve got three good reasons for you to change your mind:
- Bacon is full of a main nutrient called “choline”, which helps to increase our intelligence and memory. And it has been used to fight off the Alzheimer’s effect.
- Bacon can help, if eaten as a regular diet, to lower the blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Also, to avoiding heart attacks and prevent/relieve effects of diabetes.
- Bacon helps to fully satiate our appetite with high protein and, yes, low carb energy, helping the body lose weight and increase muscles.
And the surprises don’t stop at the meal, you can also have a dessert thought of as junk without worrying, news research points out that chocolate can bring benefits to you, specially if you are going frequently to a gym trying to be stronger. Scientists of University of California in San Diego have found a link between chocolate and building muscle. The reason is the main nutritional ingredient of cacao “epicatechin” which increases mitochondria in leg muscles.
Another study has revealed that when dark chocolate (in small doses) is eaten in combination with regular activities the body’s performance could increase up to 50 per cent.
To sum up, we all know that overdoses of anything can be dangerous but you don’t need to cut all the said “junk food” off your diet. Try to maintain a regular practise of exercise and eat what makes you happy!
