The first strike in 80 years for doctors: Maybe there is something wrong with the NHS system
Since the government has taken the decision to operate some cuts in NHS, doctors and patients are worried. Indeed, 50,000 jobs are expected to disappear in the next five years, prices will be increased and people fear a privatisation of NHS. Besides, pension contributions will be raised, and the retirement age will be put off. However, the government refuses to take any action to change it, even after doctors have been on strike.
According to the government, the huge debt (20 billion over the UK) of NHS is due to bad managing: NHS employees would have a salary that is too high, the number of nurses and doctors has been increased too much and patients would stay too long in hospitals. Some people think the government is right, and that it is necessary to apply those cuts, and that even if at first it would cause some financial problems, it would, in a long period of time, improve the health service provided.
It is not to the taste of everybody, though, as people may have to wait longer to have an operation, and as some may not be able to afford some operations.
