So...you have arrived in England and you need to change the money from your country to English currency!  How did you do that?  Do you have a bank account in England?  Did you do it yourself or did you get your host family/ the staff at Kaplan/your friends to help you?

Do you know where you can exchange money?  Where can you get the best exchange rate?  Which places charge commission?

Maybe you changed the money in your country?  If so, how did you feel about bringing so much money in your bag?  Did you have problems at customs?  Do you know how much cash you can bring into England?

Do you usually pay by card or cash in England?  Which is the best way for you?  Do you keep lots of money in your pocket?  Have you had any problems with losing money in England?  What did you do?

What do you think about the price of food/shopping in England?  Did it surprise you?

Here are some idioms - do you know what they mean?
1. Put your money where your mouth is
2. To be made of money
3. Put your money on it
4. Money is the root of all evil
5. Time is money

Soooooooo many questions!  So now it's your turn!  What do you think......?

I think the best way of payment in England is by card , because all of the stores and supermarkets accept it and it is more safe to have alot of cash in your pocket ..

The idioms ;
1.Put your money where your mouth is ; it means you have to prove what are you saying :)
2.To be made of money ; to have alot of money
3.Put your money on it ; That you are sure form something so you are ready to put your money on it
4.Money is the rool of all evil ; it means that money can change a good person to an evil but it isn't a rule
5.Time is money ; that the time is also as important as the money so you mustn't waste it .

I'd like to comment the price of food in England. It's so expensive!!!! I live in a residence and I must keep how spend my money, because sometimes, there are differents aliments that it's better eatting out.

Yesterday I went to the supermarket. I bought four nonsense, and I spent 8 pounds! It's crazy!!!!

Advise: If you can, you should buy in Aldi. In my opinion, it's the cheapest supermarket.

Hi Big Boss,

I am sure you have considered having the right visa if you or any other student is interetsed in working in the UK. It is illegal to work without having work rights in this country and you can find yourself in a lot of trouble if you if you take any risks.

In America is common to use American Dollars or Euros, when I arrived to UK I brought theses currency and needed go to money exchange to get Pounds. Some friends told me about one place in Arndale where I can get the best rate to exchange and don't have commission.
Certainly, I went to EuroChange and found the best rate to exchange my money.

Here's a good tip for all of you guys. Change your money at the currency exchance in Frankfurt Airport, you must change more than 300 € so they don't charge a commision. I changed €400 and they gave me £397. You can change more money but you have to be careful when you're travelling.

Hi people! We give you some advice to save money in the UK.

If you want to buy something, don’t use your credit card every time if you have the possibility to pay with cash.

If you need to go somewhere, don’t rent a car because the insurance is very expensive. Moreover, it’s difficult to drive on the left side.

If you would like to contact some friends or your family, you should buy a UK sim card or if you have a wi-fi connection, you should use programs like skype for example.

If you love spend money for clothes, you have to be careful because the prices are expensive. It’ll be better if you bring clothes from your country.

If you want to take a ticket for public transport, you have to buy a weekly or a monthly ticket in order to save money.

If you desire to travel around the country, you should make a plan in order to book your tickets a long time before and save some money.

we think that we have many many choices to save our money and to be a money saving expert, if you want to live here in Manchester you need to check our list:

•Save £100s when you go abroad, or spending on foreign websites if you use specialist travel spending cards.
•If you want to get discount vouchers , you have to visit http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/
•if you have £1,000 on a credit card at 18% and £1,000 in savings at 2% after tax, you'd be £160 a year better off by simply repaying the card with the savings.
•If you have Cashback credit cards you will get money back every time you spend on them.
•Earn flights worldwide for you and your partner if you spend on a different card.
•If you've collected enough Airline credit cards miles they can be converted into flights (taxes and charges must still be paid).
•If you want to save money, get every penny you can.
•Choose a few courses going on the cheap if you want to be a money saving expert.
•If the course you want to study has lower tuition fees, that’s brilliant
•If you need to do a postgraduate, check all methods of getting funding like Government funding, Research councils, Companies, Trusts and charities, Universities and Banks.
•If you want to increase your money, find part time work.
•You can apply for a student loan if you have a good score in your subject.

We hope that be useful for you.

• If you want to talk with your parents, use the internet because mobile phones are very expensive
• If you bring money to change here don’t change at the airport, it’s better that you do it in a post office
• If you want to buy fashion clothes go to a second-hand shop, it’s cheaper and you can find nice things
• Don’t eat in restaurants or fast foods all the time if you will stay a long time
• Check the restaurants menu before if you don’t want to be broke.
• You should open an international account because you can use the credit card in all the places
• Be careful with the taxes when you buy by internet because you can see it after you will put you information account.

Hi Students of the world!

If you come to England, especially to Manchester you should know something about money.
The currency in UK is Sterling, but the coins are called pounds (the notes) and pennies. Before leaving check the exchange rate, so sometimes it’s better to change money at home. It’s also good to have some pocket money and if possible a credit card. It depends where you are from; you will need more money for food and drink than in your country. On the other hand you can find good offers for clothes, books and multimedia.
Important for your time here: you need to learn to budget. Make a weekly or monthly budget and stick to it. Other tips:
• Try not to use your credit card to pay for things. It's easier to keep track if you pay cash. When going out drinking, only take with you the amount you're happy to spend that night.
• Before you buy something, ask yourself: Do I really need it? Can I afford it? Can I get it cheaper elsewhere? If any one answer is no, think again.
• Don't use cash machines that charge for withdrawals. Find out which ATMs charge and which don't.

Dear xxxx

I’m so glad that you come to visit me!!

First of all I need to tell you some stuff about life of England. Everything here is very expensive; you should bring a lot of money, if you can! It’s a good idea to exchange your money in the bank in your country; or make a deposit in your bank and when you arrive here you can exchange on a post office.

Moreover, I’m going to give you some tips of saving money. If you want to afford a social life, you need to learn to budget in UK, if you want save money, you can get 300 call min., unlimited texts and 500 mb of data for £ 10.50 on month from Vodafone or unlimited packages to £21 a month from T-mobile. If you want to travel in UK, you can get a 16-25 Railcard- it costs £28 for one year and gives you a third off UK rail fares.
If you study in UK for a long time you will need a bank account.

So, that’s it, if you any other question you can tell me or search in this website – Moneysavingexpert.com –

Kisses!
